Instructions

  • Join a breakout room with your group.
  1. Pick at least one plot from this list (also listed below). Note there is a mixture of common plot types (Violin plot, boxplot, stacked bar chart, Heatmap) and field specific plots (e.g., Caterpillar plot, Waterfall plot, Quilt plot) listed.
  2. Research the plot type – answering specific questions listed on the template slide

A template slide showing the questions groups should explore for their chosen plot type. Questions include what is the plot used for, what kind of data is needed, what geometric marks or visual channels are being used, finding an example of that plot in the literature and interpeting it. A few questions such as how to make the plot, strengths and weaknesses of the plot as well as alternatives or related plot types are included if time allows.
